Midsized SUVs are perennial favorites with Cartelligent clients, offering ample passenger room and cargo space for kids, carpools, road-trips, and more. Midsized SUVs are generally more fuel-efficient than their full-sized brethren (and typically easier to fit in the only open parking spot for blocks).

At Cartelligent we help thousands of people each year decide which vehicle best meets their personal requirements. We’ve compiled a list of our best-selling midsized SUVs below.

10. Volkswagen Touareg (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: VW’s premium SUV offers the luxury of a German SUV without the high price tag. Upgrades include touchscreen navigation, overhead view camera, panoramic sunroof, and an available TDI diesel engine that gets an EPA estimated 29 mpg highway.

9. Mercedes-Benz M-Class (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: The Mercedes-Benz M-Class couples above average handling and performance with an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating. With four powertrain options, including a robust fuel-sipping diesel and the high-powered ML63 AMG performance model, there’s an ML out there for everyone. For 2016, the M-Class is being renamed the GLE class which is pictured above. (See: Understanding the new Mercedes-Benz model names.)

8. Honda Pilot (3-row SUV)

Why we love it: Honda’s popular SUV is redesigned for 2016 and we expect it to be in high demand. The new model is 3.5″ longer and 300 lbs. lighter than its predecessor, with an updated interior that feels more spacious and refined. An IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the Pilot comes standard with forward collision warning, lane departure warning and collision mitigation.

7. Porsche Cayenne (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: Porsche’s flagship SUV was redesigned in 2015 with a sharper design and increased power and torque. The result retains the dynamic racing history of Porsche while providing the space and convenience of an SUV. The Cayenne is also offered as a diesel and an E-Hybrid for those looking for increased fuel economy.

6. Ford Explorer (3-row SUV)

Why we love it: With a spacious, flexible interior and a usable third row of seats, the Explorer is a great choice for those who want a practical midsized SUV. Available upgrades include an EcoBoost engine, hands-free parking, voice-activated SYNC technology, and a front 180 degree camera.

5. Lexus RX (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: Lexus’s stalwart RX series offers a quiet, comfortable ride and a well styled-interior. Reliability ratings are through the roof, and the AWD 450h’s hybrid drivetrain achieves an impressive 30 mpg combined rating—a huge reason for its popularity. A fully redesigned 2016 model is on the way (pictured above), and should continue this model’s impressive success.

4. Jeep Grand Cherokee (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: The classic Grand Cherokee is consistently popular with Cartelligent clients. It can serve as a spacious and comfortable family vehicle or as a capable off-road or tow vehicle (when properly equipped). Powertrain options include a 3.6L Pentastar V6, a 5.7L HEMI V8, and a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6.

3. Toyota Highlander (2/3-row SUV)

Why we love it: With an optional third row, and available second-row captain’s chairs, the Highlander remains a popular choice among families. A back-up camera comes standard; the Highlander is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with optional front crash prevention. A hybrid version is also available. (Watch a Video Review.)

2. BMW X5 (2/3-row SUV)

Why we love it: The X5 combines the utility of an SUV with the luxury and performance of a BMW. A third-row is optional, and safety upgrades include a rear view camera, active driving assistant, night vision and surround view. A diesel version is available and a plug-in hybrid is expected to arrive in October 2015.

1. Audi Q5/SQ5 (2-row SUV)

Why we love it: Agile and luxurious, the Audi Q5 is our top-selling mid-sized SUV. Cartelligent clients love the well-appointed cabin and responsive handling. The Q5 is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with optional front crash prevention. A turbodiesel model is also available.
